Artist Statement

My paintings explore art history through the mode of self-portraiture. Through my likeness, I participate in and witness the continuum of a lived tradition. I merge classical techniques with a contemporary vision to explore what it means to hold an identity. I explore how my identity can drift between centuries and still remain whole. Each painting revives the lost dialogue between painter and subject. My studio becomes a theatrical stage where memory, ritual, and imagination are merged. Through painting, history opens itself and becomes tangible. I carry on the legacy of painting through reenactments of lived experiences. Within my studio, I explore the relationship between myself and time. Through chiaroscuro, I shape mood and atmosphere, allowing light to become an active agent in constructing emotion. The weight of pigment, the density of glaze creates the illusion of presence, blurring the boundary between flesh and surface. In my work, time folds into pigment, allowing the observer to become the observed. Each painting reminds us that all moments coexist, that the past and present consciously hold hands. In the end, paint gathers to breathe on the same surface and share collected time.
